Going for the 50MP AI mode won't give you any benefits beyond the more natural processing, which, however, is hard to appreciate on the phone's screen. Colors are also pleasant - a bit saturated but definitely not over the top. Except for these, the nova 9 generally outputs nice and pleasant photos, which are nice and sharp.ĭynamic range is more than adequate as even challenging conditions couldn't ruin the shadow/highlight balance. What struck us the most is that the autofocus is inconsistent, and we would sometimes get photos that are less than ideally sharp. When it came to daylight photos, these are not very competitive for the price range, but they are quite okay. The general settings menu is in the upper-right corner of the viewfinder.Ī Pro mode is also available giving you full control over the main camera's focus, ISO, shutter speed, exposure and white balance. There's a More sub-menu housing the rest of the modes. The default camera app is no different from any other Android camera software - the main modes are arranged in a carousel formation, and you can switch between them with a swipe. The selfie camera is 32MP, 0.8µm pixels, f/2.0 aperture and going by previous experience with such configuration, the sensor size should be 1/2.8". The other two cameras are for depth sensing and macro photography, both 2MP with f/2.4 apertures. The ultrawide camera relies on a more common 8MP 1/4.0" sensor joined by an f/2.2 lens. The same unit can be found on the Oppo Find X3 Pro, albeit with a more sophisticated lens. Huawei doesn't advertise the sensor types used on the nova 9, but we discovered that they are using a high-end 50MP Sony IMX766 1/1.56" sensor with 1.0µm pixels behind the f/1.9 lens. But if you're still struggling to figure it out after looking at the tags below, you can submit your tags here for us to have a look at and try and investigate. Because of such subtle changes to tags over the years, its important to compare minor details such as the thickness of the font, the exact outline of the mountain range and the colour scheme used. Other than that, direct comparisons between example tags are a great way to determine an answer. This is only really applicable for fleeces, but when a fleece has three buttons, it is a sure fire sign that your Patagonia is vintage. Another clue to look out for with the buttons is how many are on the item. However just because an item has the newer, bigger buttons, it doesn’t mean the item isn’t vintage because Patagonia offers a lifetime repair service where their customers take in damaged Patagonia items that they then repair free of charge, sometimes with new parts. Thirdly, the buttons on vintage Patagonia items tended to be smaller and made of a slightly more metallic material. And secondly, extra white tags attached to the main tag usually indicate that the item is from the mid 2000s onwards. However, Patagonia does still manufacture some items in the USA, so just because something was made there, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s vintage. So, if your Patagonia was made outside the USA, it likely isn’t vintage. Firstly, Patagonia only began manufacturing outside the USA after 2012. In both cases the company responded in a strong manner, quickly aiming to fix and monitor these areas.Ī few rules can be applied to start narrowing down whether or not Patagonia is vintage. Activist groups have uncovered potentially dubious practices in the supply chain, such as the use of force fed geese feathers for down and the use of poorly sheared wool. Patagonia prides itself on using the highest quality, and most ethically sourced materials. How to tell if Patagonia is vintage from the tags A few different iterations have been used on marketing materials, but the main, coloured logo is used on the majority of products. This means the logo does not give us much in the way of determining the age of vintage Patagonia. Due to Patagonia being a relatively young company the logo has essentially not changed since its launch in 1973. The silhouette visible in the background of Patagonia logos is an outline of Monte Fitz Roy, a mountain on the Argentine and Chile border. The name Patagonia is a reference to an area in South America spread across Argentina and Chile. How to tell if Patagonia is vintage from the logo Ironically this was one of the most successful marketing campaigns in the last few decades and skyrocketed sales and the brands reputation. One of Patagonia’s most recent ethical stances was displayed in an advert that urged people not to buy a jacket, and instead focus on recycling clothes. It is also a leader in promoting worker safety and rights, carefully monitoring every step of the supply chain to ensure high standards. They have also boycotted Facebook Advertising, explaining that they were unhappy with how little Facebook was doing to combat hate speech on the platform. Other activism includes boycotting trade shows to impede legislation that puts national parks and wildlife at risk. They have even gone as far to create a marketplace to sell vintage Patagonia. Recently they have pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025 and started to champion the circular economy and Patagonia resale market. Since then, they have publicly donated many of the windfalls the company has received, famously donating $10 million they received from Donald Trump’s tax cut to environmental groups. One of its earliest examples of this is the 1985 pledge they took to donate 1% of total sales to environmental groups. Patagonia has a powerful history of activism, and views itself as an activist company that should pursue strong ethical missions in society. This strong reputation has helped it become popular within mainstream fashion, and items such as their Synchilla Fleece are highly sought after. Particularly popular was its apparel line, which was regarded as very durable and perfect for rugged activities. Patagonia expanded its range of products to cover a whole host of sporting and outdoor activities. The first Patagonia store opened in 1973 in Santa Clara, California under the name Great Pacific Iron Works. As demand for his high quality climbing equipment grew, he found a partner to help expand production. Founder Yvon Chouinard got started by selling climbing equipment that he personally designed and manufactured in 1965. Patagonia, like many fashion brands, was born outside the realm of fashion. Roof tiles can be affixed by screws or nails, but in some cases historic. Headquartered in Center City Philadelphia, SRS Energy developed and manufactures the Sole Power Tile system, a curved solar roofing tile designed to integrate. Later tiles have been made from materials such as concrete, and plastic. Each system is monitored to provide feedback so that checks can be made against any credits made. Roof tiles are overlapping tiles designed mainly to keep out rain or snow, and are traditionally made from locally available materials such as clay or slate. Utility companies then give a credit for the amount of energy generated meaning financial benefits can be enjoyed from day one. According to SRS Energy: "triple-junction amorphous silicon thin-film technology incorporated within the Solé Power Tile" is manufactured by United Solar Ovonic and "allows the system to produce an estimated 8-20% more energy than incumbent crystalline silicon panels."Īny power generated by the system which is not used by the building (or stored in batteries if that option is chosen) is fed into the grid. GSE In-Roof System enables modules installation on every type of roof covering (curved tiles, interlocking, flat tiles, slates, metal, zinc, trapezoidal). The average cost of solar tiles is around 12 to 25 per sq. I realise no-one wants to hear excuses, everyone is here for updates so. As with most Apple upgrades, new hardware and software upgrades are required, both of which have their own level of risk which deserves the highest level of acceptance testing. There are multiple reasons for the delay in releasing new technologies on Cloud Build, the main reason being to ensure the stability of the service for all users. We do understand that the interim period between Apple's release of Xcode and when it becomes available on Unity Cloud Build can be very frustrating when everyone has their own deadlines to meet. The least of these requirements being able to ship products day-and-date with the release of new tools/operating system revisions.įirstly, thanks for everyone's continued patience with the service. I realize that the scale and coordination that the servers/service are represent an incredible challenge to maintain and support, but if Unity wants to prop up its engine with additional services: studios should be able to rely on those for their business cases. The least of these requirements being able to ship products day-and-date with the release of new tools/operating system Checking in a couple weeks later, is there an ETA yet? It's been over three weeks since Xcode 11 has been released. Moreover, this seems to be the norm for UCB with little to no acknowledgement of planned improvement on this front. This often means that for the projects that we rely on Cloud Build for, our efficiency gets killed around new Xcode releases since we're switching to local, manual builds to run our test suites instead of the daily builds we get with Cloud Build. It's incredibly frustrating to not have these tools available to us at this point, and not an excuse that clients are willing to put up with. Checking in a couple weeks later, is there an ETA yet? HROs are preoccupied with failure, never satisfied that they have not had an accident for many months or many years, and they are always alert to the smallest signal that a new threat to safety may be developing. The five high-reliability principles that Weick and Sutcliffe spell out further elucidate the capability of high-reliability organizations to achieve and maintain exemplary levels of safety. These lessons point to specific weaknesses in safety protocols or procedures that can be remedied to reduce the risk of future failures. They prize the identification of errors and close calls for the lessons they can extract from a careful analysis of what occurred before these events. These organizations rarely, if ever, have significant accidents. They describe an environment of “collective mindfulness” in which all workers look for, and report, small problems or unsafe conditions before they pose a substantial risk to the organization and when they are easy to fix (Weick and Sutcliffe 2007). Weick and Sutcliffe provide the most compelling depiction of how high-reliability organizations (HROs) stay safe. We began our investigation of what high reliability might mean for health care by analyzing what is known about how highly reliable organizations function. What Can High-Reliability Organizations Teach Health Care? Indeed, the most serious problems with the quality of health care are found in hospitals, and some hospitals are already working toward becoming highly reliable. Although some elements of this framework may be relevant to many different kinds of health care organizations, we developed it specifically for hospitals. The framework describes four stages of maturity that define milestones on this road for each of fourteen specific characteristics of health care organizations. In this article, we report the further elaboration of that work in the form of a practical framework that individual health care organizations can use to evaluate their readiness for and progress toward the goal of high reliability. In an earlier article, we discussed the historical context of the challenge of high-reliability health care and described the broad outlines of a conceptual framework that might enable health care organizations to chart a path toward high reliability (Chassin and Loeb 2011). health care organizations that we accredit or certify. We combined this knowledge with an understanding of health care quality and safety that derives from our daily work with the more than 20,000 U.S. Could health care become highly reliable as well? What would health care organizations have to do differently to achieve this goal? To address these questions, a team at the Joint Commission has worked closely with experts in high reliability from academia and industry. Organizations in these and other industries have been the subject of scholarly study, seeking to understand what characteristics and behaviors create the conditions that produce such exemplary performance or “high reliability” (Reason 1997 Weick and Sutcliffe 2007). Commercial air travel, nuclear power, and even amusement parks are pertinent examples. The frequency and severity of these failings stand in particularly sharp contrast to the extraordinary successes that industries outside health care have had in achieving and sustaining remarkable levels of safety. Fires break out in our operating rooms during surgery, perhaps as frequently as six hundred times a year, often seriously injuring the patient (ECRI Institute 2013). Operations on the wrong patient or the wrong body part continue to take place, perhaps as often as fifty times per week in the United States (estimated from: Minnesota Department of Health 2013). More people are harmed by errors during transitions from one health care setting to another (Bodenheimer 2008 Forster et al. Every year, millions of people suffer the adverse effects of health care–associated infections and harmful medication errors (Aspden et al. Measured against the magnitude of the problems, however, the overall impact has been underwhelming. Isolated examples of improvement now can be found, and some of the results are impressive (Dixon-Woods et al. Almost fourteen years have passed since the institute of Medicine's report “To Err Is Human” galvanized a national movement to improve the quality and safety of health care (Kohn, Corrigan, and Donaldson 2000). The upshot is a more linear delivery, along with added flexibility when you put your foot down in the higher gears. The new engine adds an extra 40kg and, at 1530kg, the C230 is no rocket off the line 0-62mph takes 8.4sec, 0.3sec longer than before owing, in part, to a longer final-drive ratio. While the new model can’t quite match the impressive 192lb ft of its predecessor, its 181lb ft of torque is delivered 600rpm earlier than before at 2900rpm, and remains on tap through to a relatively high 5500rpm. The result is 201bhp at 6200rpm – an increase of 11bhp. It’s also a lot quieter than the four-cylinder, the improved sound deadening making long distance motorway journeys one of this car’s real strong points. The 2496cc engine features all aluminium construction, continuously variable camshaft adjustment for both the intake and exhaust valves and the the air intake has been modified for improved breathing. Apart from the kudos of having a six-cylinder powerplant sitting up front, there is an immediate feeling of added refinement, no matter how hard you are working the car.The naturally-aspirated V6 is noticeably smoother and more free revving than the old supercharged four, with a more urgent feel from a standing start, and the engine quickly gets into its stride. Still, with prices set to remain the same in the UK, I suspect prospective customers won’t be too troubled by the retention of the old name, despite the engine’s larger size.Sit behind the wheel of the reworked C230 and you quickly appreciate just how much of a difference the new engine makes to the overall driving experience. As good as they are, they’re expensive to produce and hold little attraction outside European markets.Confusingly, though, Mercedes has decided to retain the old C230 name with the introduction of its latest petrol engine – the practice of matching model designations to engine capacity is no longer the done thing in Stuttgart. It’s all part of a concerted effort to lessen Mercedes’ dependence on diesel engines. No surprise, then, to finally see it being set aside for Mercedes-Benz’s excellent new 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine. The four-valve-per-cylinder powerplant forms part of a new range of engines that are set to be added to the C-class range and other models in coming months the 3.0-litre and 3.5-litre units have already found their way into the E-class. But despite the carefully conceived changes there still remain some big weaknesses in the four-year-old C-class’s line-up, and one of the most obvious is the supercharged 1.8-litre engine used in the mid-range C230 Kompressor.A long time staple of the C-class range, the blown four-cylinder is endowed with considerable mid-range urge, but its coarse operation is very much at odds with the car’s otherwise cultivated character. Mercedes-Benz has done all the right things to the C-class recently, with chassis tweaks and engine upgrades turning the junior exec into a very attractive proposition. |
